Drama is currently studied as part of the English curriculum, with pupils using improvised role-play, paired and small group work and more structured dramatic pieces to explore play scripts and characterisation in the texts they are studying.

Specialist Drama coaches from Riding Lights Theatre Company also run The Minster School York Youth Theatre Company, afterschool. Our Year 8 pupils work with this popular theatre group and star in an end-of-term performance over several nights, where the standards reached are astonishing. Pupils from other year groups – who also attend the afterschool club – can take minor parts. Spectacular past performances of Wind in the Willows and The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe have dazzled audiences.
