Pre-Prep

Pre-Prep is housed in the magnificent Red House; a fine Georgian building overlooking York Minster’s Great East Window. Our staff are highly qualified, experienced and full of zest. Teachers and their assistants work together with a common sense of purpose to promote high expectations of achievement while also having fun. Each child is valued as an individual and for their own contribution to the life of the whole school.

We work in true partnership with parents and carers to achieve the best for each child. They are welcomed into school and encouraged to become a real and integral part of the school community.

Classrooms allow pupils to learn through exploration and discovery, through clever organisation. Pupils have access to computers, space for rest and play, the Music Room, Junior Library, the Junior Computer Room and a well-equipped kitchen. Class sizes are small with enviable child/adult ratios compared to other York schools.

A beautiful, walled, safe outdoor play area, is at the rear of the building. There is an all-weather playground, a soft surface and climbing frame, together with a lawned garden and flower beds, providing picturesque opportunities for adventure play, gardening and investigations.

The Red House is entirely separate from the Prep department, though it is only a hop, skip and a jump away. Close links are maintained with the older children in close neighbours, Prep, their teachers and the Head Teacher. Pre-Prep children regularly use the main school facilities, including the School Hall, Library, adventure playground and large grassed area for sports.
