The Minster School
The Minster School York is one of the oldest schools in the world, evident from its beautiful architecture; a fitting neighbour to the cathedral itself. Founded in 627 by the first Archbishop of York, Paulinus, boy choristers were educated there, and continued to lead the choral worship in York Minster throughout the historical turbulence of subsequent centuries.
The current school was re-established in 1903, and since 1987, The Minster School York has been a fully co-educational preparatory school with its own Pre-Prep department. In 1995, the Dean and Chapter of York welcomed girl choristers to complement and share the commitments of the existing boys’ choir. Joyfully, the current choir showcases the talents of some of our girl and boy pupils.
The school today educates and inspires around 180 pupils aged 4 to 13 years; all of whom are valued for the individual contributions they make to the life of our school community.
Mrs Angela Mitchell became Head Teacher in September 2019, having previously been Head at an outstanding local primary school for 15 years.
