Core Subjects

At The Minster School York, we encourage perseverance, determination and endeavour; our young people aim high and are deservedly proud of their results. Staff imbue their lessons with enthusiasm and challenge, and expect high standards of behaviour and effort in return.

From the earliest mark making in Nursery to the greater depth of writing of our Year 8s, staff encourage pupils to apply themselves, read around subjects and to enjoy writing creatively. Our young people write in a range of genres, for different purposes and audiences. Our English teaching follows Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), National Curriculum requirements until Year 6, which prepares our pupils to perform well in entrance exams at 13+. This means children from The Minster School York are ready to thrive at whichever school they move on to next.
