You have only to glance out of one of The Minster School York’s many historical stone windows and your breath will catch at the sight of the second-largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe, standing majestically opposite.

York Minster holds an inspirational welcome service at the start of each Minster School York term. Annual services such as the Harvest Festival and Christmas Carol services take place in the magnificent Quire, and the Pre-Prep nativity play is held in the thirteenth-century Chapter House. Families of our pupils are most welcome to these truly memorable events.

Our school is directly part of York Minster’s special community, offering an abundance of site-specific learning opportunities, bespoke services and events for our young people to be involved with and lead, whether they are religious or not.

Our fortunate pupils have unparalleled access to neighbouring York Minster for their schoolwork; learning about medieval stained glass or stone carving for Art and RE lessons, taking part in acoustically-perfect musical performances, or doing Maths by counting gargoyles. To research a history assignment, our pupils can pop across to the Old Palace Museum in Dean’s Park, where over 300,000 fascinating historical documents are available within the Minster’s breath-taking Historic Collections.

The Dean and other Minster clergy regularly visit school to lead assemblies, enjoy lively discussions over lunch, or to deliver or chair challenging lectures to encourage debate and reflection. Other talented members of the Minster Community offer their help and expertise in school, preparing older pupils for interviews, or sharing industry-sector expertise to help create skilled and compassionate leaders of the future.
